With its facade, bell tower, forecourt formed by pebbles representing the Grimaldi coat of arms, and majestic ramps, it is a jewel of Baroque art.
Let yourself be told the story of this jewel of Baroque art. At the beginning of the 17th century, Honoré II settled in Menton with the intention of making it the capital of the principality. Considering the church too modest, he decided to build a beautiful and vast edifice in the style of the time, later qualified as Genoese Baroque.
The Vicar General of Ventimiglia blessed the site in December 1644. On May 8, 1675, Monsignor Maur de Promontorio, Bishop of Ventimiglia, solemnly consecrated the building in the presence of Prince Louis I of Monaco and all the dignitaries of his court. The old bell tower, rebuilt in 1645, was deemed insufficient.
It took on its current appearance in 1819 thanks to the donation of the generous Menton resident Joseph Faraldo. The chosen style is Genoese Baroque.
